Fundamental part of lean manufacturing is the 5S method - a procedure adopted from the Japanese approach and dedicated to workstation tidiness and cleanliness.
Seiri – Select and Separate. Eliminate anything that is unnecessary from the workstation
Seiton – Set in order and organize. Sort out efficiently tools, equipment, materials, etc
Seiso – Check everything is tidy and clean;
Seiketsu – Standardize and improve. Maintain order and cleanliness, try to improve by repeating the phases continuously: Seiri, Seiton, Seiso;
Shitsuke – Sustain in time. Continuous self-discipline and accuracy
